Ryanair resumes the sale of all Lappeenranta flights – new connection from Bavaria, Germany to Lappeenranta to be launched in July

Ryanair, Europe’s largest low-cost carrier, has resumed the sale of all planned flights to Lappeenranta. Flights from Bergamo and Vienna will start in July, with flights from Budapest and Berlin commencing from November.

Ryanair will also launch a new route between Lappeenranta and southern Germany in July. The route will be flown from Memmingen Airport, located 110 kilometres southwest of Munich. All the Ryanair routes are designed to be year-round and are operated twice a week.

According to Eija Joro, CEO of Lappeenranta Airport Ltd, the number of available seats on flights will be approximately 70,000 in 2021 in light of current information.

“The coronavirus situation is serious and challenging in every respect, but there is faith in the future. We are therefore pleased that Ryanair has decided to restore all direct, low-cost and year-round connections to Lappeenranta. The number of seats available annually with this traffic programme is almost 200,000 under normal circumstances.”

“We are striving to build an ideal selection of routes specifically with a view to the growth and vitality of tourism in the Lake Saimaa region. This goal is particularly well-served by this range of routes”, Joro rejoices.

Joro emphasises that as airline traffic returns to normal in due course, Lappeenranta Airport will continue to operate in full compliance with the regulations and recommendations of the authorities.

“We are hoping that the coronavirus situation will already be better in the summer. Even if there are changes to the plans due to the situation and the associated travel restrictions, the agreed flights will resume once the situation allows.”

The global pandemic has posed unprecedented challenges for airline traffic and tourism businesses. Joro feels that it would now be essential to have a uniform EU-level policy on travel restrictions. The pandemic is also changing people’s travel behaviour.

“Leisure travel is expected to resume first as vaccine coverage increases and travel restrictions are relaxed.”

“Peaceful destinations such as Finland and the Lake Saimaa region, where you can spend a relaxing holiday without crowds, are becoming ever more attractive in this situation. German-speaking Europe and northern Italy are markets with very high potential from the perspective of tourism in our area.”

Booked flights can be rescheduled or changed

Tanja Ehrlich, Ryanair’s PR & Communications Manager for the German-speaking region, is delighted with the new flight route between Memmingen and Lappeenranta.

“Travel restrictions are changing constantly, so customers can now book flights for their well-deserved holiday knowing that they can reschedule or change their travel dates up to two times without a change fee. This applies to bookings made for flights until 31 October 2021.”

Flights can be booked on the Ryanair website.
