Lappeenranta Airport is now privately owned airport

As of the beginning of this year, Lappeenranta Airport is regionally owned. Finavia, the City of Lappeenranta and the Regional Council of South Karelia decided to transfer the ownership of Lappeenranta Airport property and its business operations, previously owned by Finavia, to Saimaan lentoasema-säätiö sr (the Saimaa Airport Foundation) and to a new company entitled Lappeenrannan Lentoasema Oy (Lappeenranta Airport Plc).

The business operations were handed over to the new company on 1 January 2016. The regionalisation project of Lappeenranta Airport is part of the implementation of the Air Transport Strategy prepared by the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
